So, what's this all about? - Herbert Park Rangers Football Club is what University College Dublin Canoe Club looks like when it's playing football. If you want to see how kayakers play football, then come along to Herbert Park, between Donnybrook and Ballsbridge, in Dublin, any Tuesday at six in the evening, unless it's raining, in which case we are on the river. |
|
Kayakers are not well-known for their ability to play football, as football involves a certain amount of willingness to play well with others. We can't play football to save our lives, so the standard is somewhat reminiscent of schoolyard games. Everyone piles after the ball and kicks lumps out of it and the other players, with no style or apparent order. Fantastic. To counterpoint this, we are super-smooth on the river. Really, we are. |
At the start of another glorious football season, Herbert Park Rangers F.C. fans are flocking to the legendary El Stadio Daddio Magnifico Herbert Olympico Hampden Park Neucamp Maine Road Bernabau San Siro Kitchen Sink or Swimorama Giants Penrith Palladium Stadium of Light Fantastic Free Londonderry of Perchance to Dreams Welcome to This Evening’s Cabaret Cauldron of Burnination NürburgRing of Fire and Impeach the Committee in the Disco No Surrender Descent into Chaos. After a few low-key preseason friendlies, the club kicked off at home on Tuesday, April 20, 2004. The text in the top right corner of each page is the official name of the stadium. It kind of got bigger each week last year, sorry about that. |
All you need to know is that there will be a game every Tuesday at six in the evening in Herbert Park, at the Donnybrook end. Matches finish when the park ranger with the bell kicks us out around eight, or when everyone is wrecked, whichever comes first. All welcome, as usual. Most of us are rubbish at football, so don't be afraid to come along. New stuff next week. |
